Red Halvaei Bidjar Persian Rug - Origin: Persian, NW Iran - Age: Mid 20th Century - Dimensions: 1,3 m x 2,15 m

Semi antique rare Red Halvaei Bidjar Persian Rug, hand woven, in pretty good condition, the pile is nice and in same level all over the carpet. Natural dyes and very durable construction, shiny wool because of its age.

Bidjar is a town in Persian Kurdistan located in north-west Iran. The Bidjar is noted as being the stiffest carpet made; they are very heavy in relation to their size, and very thick and durable. All of the knots are symmetrical and the rows are beaten down during the weaving process producing a dense compact fabric.

Bijar carpets were produced in a classical medallion format as well as in allover designs and pictorial or garden patterns. The quality of their wool is lustrous and soft, the drawing at times classically precise or wildly tribal. Some are attributable to Kurdish weavers living in the Bijar region.

Known for producing some of the most important Persian rugs, Bidjar weavers have perfected a style of rug weaving that results in what are called “Iron Rugs.”

Welcome to the world of very durable rugs from Bijar, northwest Persia. This nice piece measures 129x215 cm and was woven by Kurdish weavers in the city of Bijar around 1950.
